Lionel 52041 Burlington Northern TTUX w/Conrail Trailers - LOTS (Mint) - SOLD |
Mfg #: 6-52041 - Greenburg 2014 Price Guide: $85 (Mint) |
This Burlington Northern TOFC (Trailer On Flat Car) articulated flatcar was manufactured by Lionel in 1994. It was available ONLY to members of LOTS (Lionel Operating Train Society) as the second car of a series, and is highly collectable, due to the combination of limited production quantities AND the popular BN and Conrail road names. It is modeled after T.T.U.X. Trailer Train cars frequently seen on present day American railroads.
There are (shown) three sets of ASF strong arm trucks with metal wheels & axles supporting the two flatcar superstructures, but a fourth set of wheels (truck without coupler) comes with the car so that this pair can be reconfigured to be "added" to another TTUX pair to create a unit train (by removing the truck with coupler at one end of each of the two TTUX pairs, and adding the truck without coupler as the articulated truck connecting the two).
Both of the tractor-trailers are removable from the flatcar, and carry the Conrail-Mercury name. They have operating rear doors, and the intermodal container can be removed from the trailer frames.
This car is in "factory fresh" condition (i.e. "Mint", "brand new", "never been on the tracks or displayed"). The box that comes with this car is also in Mint condition. |

Lionel 52042 Burlington Northern TTUX w/CN Trailer - LOTS (Mint) - SOLD |
Mfg #: 6-52042 - Greenburg 2014 Price Guide: $60 (Mint) |
This Burlington Northern TOFC (Trailer On Flat Car) flatcar was manufactured by Lionel in 1994. It was available ONLY to members of LOTS (Lionel Operating Train Society), the third such car of the series, and is highly collectable, due to the combination of limited production quantities AND the popular BN and CN road names.
It is modeled after T.T.U.X. Trailer Train cars frequently seen on present day American railroads. The car has ASF strong arm trucks with metal wheels & axles and operating knuckle couplers at both ends. The trucks are attached with a hex-head screw so that this car can be reconfigured to be "added" to another TTUX pair to create a unit train. The tractor-trailer is removable from the flatcar, and carries the CN logo. It has operating rear doors, and the intermodal container can be removed from the trailer frame.
This car is in "factory fresh" condition (i.e. "Mint", "brand new", "never been on the tracks or displayed"). The box that comes with this car is also in Mint condition. Interestingly, Lionel used a "full/double" TTUX box, for this "single" TTUX flat car, giving the impression that "something's missing" from the box. That original box comes with this car is also in Mint condition. |
