This “Girl’s Train" boxed set was manufactured by Lionel in 1991. It was a better than original re-make of the Girls Train set of 1957. Interestingly the collector market place of 1991 also “rejected” the concept of “another” girls train (just like in 1957), resulting in a limited production run, which ironically in turn drove the value of the set sky high. While today a like new 1957 Girls Train set will cost you between $7 and $8k, the 1991 version is “only” cataloged these days at $817 (about twice the 1991 initial retail). J

While this set is frequently seen on auction sites “sealed” and “shrink-wrapped” – if you actually want to look at, or display one, this is the set (at 2/3 the price) for you. The original owner opened the box (Heaven forbid!), so now you can too! While it did not appear that any of the individual set component boxes were ever opened, we elected to carefully and meticulously open each one to validate the condition of each.  Needless to say each set component is perfect, absolutely factory fresh!  (However, we did not open the sealed pink locomotive box (see photo), you can have that pleasure). The locomotive features electronic forward-neutral-reverse operation, front headlight and smoke.  The freight cars roll on all metal working sprung trucks, featuring metal wheels & axles and have magnetic knuckle couplers at both ends. The caboose is illuminated and rolls on die-cast trucks.

The set is “ready-to-run”, complete with an oval of track, transformer and remote uncoupling track.
