Lionel 11710 CP Rail Freight Set (Sealed)
Mfg #: Lionel 6-11710
2014 Greenburg Guidwe Price: $447 (Mint)
This CP Rail set was manufactured by Lionel in 1989. It was one of the final sets of the series of "Limited Edition - Collector Series" sets manufactured by Lionel from 1979 thru 1992. These were the sets that gained notoriety as being the ones that came in the bright, solid color set boxes.
It is headed by a CP Rail SD-40 that features dual Pullmor motors, 12 wheel drive, magne-traction, die cast metal wheels and trucks, diesel horn, headlights, illuminated number boards, traditional "e-unit" (forward-neutral-reverse), and excellently detailed cab & handrails. One of the first of the series of "simple" dual-motored SD-40s (prior to the introduction of the computerized diesels of the present day) it is "simply" a brute, nothing complicated, and capable of pulling 40-50 modern era freight cars.
The set is comprised of:
Each car features all metal sprung trucks with metal wheels & axles and operating magnetic knuckle couplers at both ends. The caboose is lighted and features a smoke unit (smoke is emitted from the caboose's smoke stack when track power is applied) and has all metal, die-cast arch-bar trucks with operating magnetic "plate-activated" couplers and metal ladders at both ends.
The set is factory seals and is in "factory fresh" condition (i.e. "Mint", "brand new", "never been on the tracks or displayed"). The solid red outer box cover is in Mint condition protected by original factory shrink wrap.
NOTE: While the sealed set photo above IS the actual set being sold, photos of the individual set components could not be taken because the set is sealed. For the reference of the potential buyer "file photos" of the individual set components are also shown below.
