This Southern Freight Runner set was manufactured by Lionel in 1987. It is a Service Station set (made available only to Lionel Service Stations for sale to their customers) that is headed by a Southern GP-9 featuring dual maintenance-free motors and eight-wheel drive, electronic forward-neutral-reverse control (no annoying "buzz"), dual operating headlights, operating magnetic couplers at both ends, and metal chassis, handrails, wheels and axles. The diesel features very popular and prototypical the Southern Railway graphics. The set contains:
All of the rolling stock run on die-cast, all metal, sprung trucks (except for the caboose which features die-cast arch-bar trucks), with operating magnetic couplers at both ends. The set is still factory sealed in a pristine set box. The diesel and each car in the set are individually boxed (within the set box) and each within this sealed set is in "factory fresh" condition (i.e. "Mint", "brand new", "never been on the tracks or displayed").
